Task planning is the step in which a system turns a goal into an ordered set of actions. In robotics, that might mean deciding which tool to use, what object to move first, and how to recover if something changes. A planner can work from sensor data, rules, or a model that predicts the next best action. It is different from simple automation because it must choose a sequence, not just repeat one command.
In cyber security, task planning matters because the plan itself can become an attack surface. If an attacker alters inputs, model outputs, or command permissions, a robot or AI agent may execute unsafe steps, skip checks, or misuse connected devices. Defenders reduce this risk with constrained action spaces, approval gates, logging, network segmentation, and human override. In physical environments such as kitchens or labs, strong task planning helps keep machines reliable, predictable, and harder to abuse.
