Systems integration

The process of making separate components work together as one functioning setup.

Systems integration is the process of making separate components work together as one functioning setup. In cyber security, those components may include cloud services, identity systems, endpoint tools, logs, network devices, and business applications. Good integration lets defenders share data, automate response, and enforce consistent policy across a larger environment.

It matters because security failures often happen at the seams: broken authentication flows, misconfigured APIs, weak trust between services, or tools that do not pass alerts and telemetry correctly. Attackers look for these integration gaps to move laterally, bypass controls, or blend into normal traffic. Defenders use integration to connect SIEM, SOAR, EDR, IAM, and ticketing systems so that detection and response are faster and more reliable. In practice, systems integration is both an operational strength and a common source of risk.
