SQL data

structured database content that can include sensitive records.

SQL data is structured information stored in a database and queried with Structured Query Language. It can include customer records, employee details, orders, credentials, logs, and other business data. Because it is organized and searchable, SQL data is often one of the most valuable assets in a system.

In cyber security, SQL data matters because attackers frequently target databases for theft, extortion, or disruption. If they gain access through weak passwords, exposed database services, or SQL injection, they may dump tables, copy backups, or alter records. In ransomware cases, threat actors may claim to possess SQL data to pressure victims, even before the exposure is verified. Defenders protect it with access control, encryption, patching, query monitoring, and regular backups, since database compromise can quickly turn into a sensitive data breach.
