A specialized agent is an AI workflow built for one narrow job, such as classifying alerts, extracting fields from documents, or routing security tickets. Unlike a general-purpose assistant, it has a limited scope, fixed tools, and clear rules for when a human must review the result. In cyber security, this design matters because small, well-defined agents are easier to control, test, and monitor than broad autonomous systems.
Specialized agents help defenders automate repetitive work without giving the model wide access to systems or data. That reduces risk, but only if least privilege, logging, and input validation are enforced. Attackers can also abuse narrow agents when they are overprivileged or poorly constrained, using them to speed up recon, parse stolen data, or trigger unsafe actions through malformed input. The security goal is to keep the task small, the permissions tight, and the oversight explicit.
