A Smart Link is a URL handling feature that turns a plain link into richer content, such as a preview, card, embedded summary, or related metadata inside a work tool. Instead of only opening a destination, the platform may fetch and display extra information from the link or from connected services.
In cyber security, Smart Links matter because they expand the trust boundary around a simple URL. If a system renders or processes untrusted link parameters too generously, an attacker can smuggle data into a trusted workspace context. That can support indirect prompt injection, cause sensitive metadata to be exposed in previews, or feed malicious input into assistants and automation. Defenders should treat Smart Links as untrusted content, limit what metadata is fetched, avoid passing URL parameters into prompts, and enforce permission-aware rendering and logging.
