ShieldFont

A project name for a defense concept aimed at reducing the usefulness of AI scraping.

ShieldFont is a defense concept for making AI scraping less useful by shaping how content is rendered or delivered to automated collectors. The goal is not necessarily to block every request, but to reduce the quality, consistency, or value of bulk extraction while keeping the page readable for human users.

It matters in cyber security because robots.txt and similar rules are only signals, not enforcement. A scraper can ignore them, so defenders may add controls that change the data itself: font-layer tricks, rendering differences, or other content-shaping methods. In real defenses, this approach is often combined with rate limiting, bot detection, and monitoring. The tradeoff is that these techniques can also affect legitimate indexing, accessibility, translation, and archiving tools, so ShieldFont-style controls are best viewed as friction, not a guarantee.
