Selfie video verification is a remote identity check in which a user submits a short video of their face as proof of personhood. Security systems may compare the recording with a profile photo, previous account data, or liveness checks to confirm that the person is present and appears to match the account holder.
In cyber security, this matters because it can raise the cost of fake accounts, impersonation, and some account-enablement fraud. However, it is only one control layer, not proof that a user is trustworthy or that an account is safe from compromise. Attackers may try replayed footage, deepfakes, or other presentation attacks to bypass the check. Defenders also have to handle sensitive biometric-like data carefully, with strong transport protection, limited retention, and clear access rules.
