SARIF, the Static Analysis Results Interchange Format, is a standard way to package findings from security and code-analysis tools. Instead of each scanner producing its own report format, SARIF lets results move between developer tools, CI pipelines, issue trackers, and security platforms in a consistent structure. It is commonly used for static application security testing, code quality checks, and related analysis workflows.
In cyber security, SARIF matters because findings are only useful when teams can review and act on them quickly. A common format helps preserve file paths, line numbers, rule IDs, severity, and remediation details, which makes triage and deduplication easier. Defenders use SARIF to surface vulnerabilities in pull requests or dashboards, while attackers benefit indirectly when the same analysis reveals weak input handling, memory-safety bugs, or unsafe APIs before release. In short, SARIF makes scanner output portable, automatable, and easier to integrate into secure development.
