Router admin panel

The web interface used to configure a home router.

The router admin panel is the web interface used to configure a home router. From this page, users can change the Wi-Fi name and password, review connected devices, set guest access, update firmware, and manage security settings such as parental controls or port forwarding. It is usually reached from inside the home network through a local address like 192.168.1.1.

This panel matters because it controls the gateway to the entire household network. If an attacker learns the admin password, they may redirect traffic, weaken Wi-Fi settings, or lock users out of their own device. Common defenses include using a unique strong admin password, changing default credentials, applying firmware updates, limiting access to the management interface, and keeping untrusted devices on a guest network. In many attacks, the admin panel is targeted through phishing, reused passwords, or malware on a device already inside the network.
