Resource reallocation

Moving staff or capacity to the place where pressure is highest.

Resource reallocation is the process of moving staff, time, computing power, bandwidth, or budget to the area where pressure is greatest. In cyber security, that usually means shifting defenders toward the systems, alerts, or business units facing the highest risk, rather than spreading effort evenly across everything.

This matters because attacks are dynamic. During a phishing wave, a DDoS event, or an active intrusion, security teams may reassign analysts to triage alerts, move network capacity to keep critical services online, or prioritize patching on exposed assets. Good reallocation improves response speed and reduces impact. Attackers also try to force defenders into bad reallocations by creating noise, tying up incident responders, or targeting low-value systems to distract from the real objective. Effective security operations depend on rapid, evidence-based reallocation guided by telemetry, risk, and incident priorities.
