Remote support gateway

Software that brokers approved access for maintenance, diagnostics, and vendor assistance.

A remote support gateway is software that brokers approved access for maintenance, diagnostics, and vendor assistance. It sits between internal systems and outside technicians, controlling who can start a session, what systems they can reach, and which actions are permitted. In many environments it also governs remote commands, script execution, file transfer, and audit logging.

In cyber security, this layer matters because it concentrates trust. If attackers compromise the gateway or its policy engine, they may be able to abuse legitimate support paths instead of breaking in through obvious user accounts. Defenders treat it as part of the control plane: patch it quickly, restrict management interfaces, require strong authentication, review approvals, and monitor logs for unusual session activity. A secure gateway helps keep remote support useful without becoming a privilege-escalation path.
