Quality assurance, or QA, is the set of processes used to confirm that a product meets expected standards before it is released or deployed. In cyber security, QA checks that software, firmware, and configurations behave as intended, do not introduce known vulnerabilities, and match requirements for safety, reliability, and access control.
QA matters because many security failures come from ordinary mistakes: missing input validation, insecure defaults, broken authentication, or changes that silently weaken protections. Defenders use QA through code review, automated tests, regression testing, fuzzing, and release gates to catch these problems early. Attackers also benefit when QA is weak, since overlooked bugs and misconfigurations can become entry points for exploitation, persistence, or data theft. Strong QA does not guarantee security, but it reduces the chance that preventable flaws reach production.
