PSIM stands for Physical Security Information Management. It is software that pulls together multiple physical security systems such as video surveillance, access control, intrusion alarms, intercoms, and sensors into one operator dashboard. Instead of checking each system separately, security teams use PSIM to correlate events, display alerts, and coordinate responses from a central console.
In cyber security, PSIM matters because it often sits on a trusted server and connects to many high-value devices and workflows. If an attacker compromises the PSIM platform or one of its interfaces, they may gain broad visibility into security operations or interfere with alarms, camera feeds, and door-control actions. Defenders should treat PSIM as critical infrastructure: isolate it with network segmentation, restrict administrative access, patch promptly, and monitor integrations, especially web modules and file-upload features that can become entry points.
