Proxy deployment is the setup of intermediary systems or services that relay network traffic between an operator and a target. Instead of connecting directly, the traffic is bounced through one or more proxies, which can hide the real source, distribute activity across locations, and make tracing harder.
In cyber security, proxies matter because they support both legitimate administration and malicious tradecraft. Attackers use them to mask command-and-control connections, route stolen data, or make scans and logins appear to come from different systems. Defenders look for unusual proxy chains, unexpected egress destinations, and traffic patterns that do not match normal business use. Baselines for approved proxies, strict identity controls, and monitoring of tunneling or relay behavior can help expose this activity.
