Profile visibility is the set of privacy controls that determines how much of a professional profile can be seen by the public or indexed by search engines. It may cover fields such as name, job title, company, photo, connections, posts, and activity.
In cyber security, visibility matters because public profile data is valuable OSINT. Attackers can use it to identify decision-makers, map reporting lines, track job changes, and craft believable spearphishing or impersonation attempts. Defenders reduce this risk by limiting public fields, restricting search indexing, reviewing connection and post settings, and keeping sensitive role details out of open profiles. The goal is not to hide every identity signal, but to expose only what is necessary for legitimate business use.
