Private connectivity

Network paths that keep service traffic off the public internet, reducing exposure but not replacing higher-level policy controls.

Private connectivity means building service paths that stay off the public internet, such as private endpoints, dedicated links, or internal tunnels between cloud and enterprise networks. The goal is to reduce exposure to scanning, interception, and accidental internet-facing misconfiguration. In AI and cloud systems, it is often used to move prompts, results, and API calls between an internal application and a provider without exposing the traffic to public routing.

It matters because privacy of the network path is not the same as security of the workload. Private connectivity can lower attack surface, but it does not replace authentication, authorization, logging, data loss controls, or policy enforcement. Attackers still target the identity layer, misconfigured routes, weak permissions, and overbroad trust between systems. Defenders use private connectivity as one control in a broader zero-trust design, especially for sensitive data flows and vendor integrations.
