Pre-fetch verification is a security control that checks a dependency, repository, or domain before any download, install, or clone action happens. The goal is simple: do not let a suggested name become trusted code or network traffic until it has been validated by policy, an allowlist, a curated catalog, or a human review step.
This matters because attackers often target the gap between a generated identifier and the first real lookup. In AI-assisted development, a model may invent a package or domain that looks plausible. If an automated workflow immediately resolves it, an attacker who controls that name can capture the request with malicious code or infrastructure. Pre-fetch verification reduces that risk by moving trust earlier in the pipeline, before execution begins. It is a practical defense against slopsquatting, phantom domains, and other late-binding supply-chain attacks.
