Pooled storage is a storage model where one capacity limit is shared by multiple users, devices, or accounts within a single subscription. Instead of each user getting a separate quota, everyone draws from the same bucket, so one person’s activity can reduce space available to the rest.
In cyber security, pooled storage matters because capacity is a shared resource that affects availability and control. If the pool fills up, uploads can fail, sync jobs can stall, and backup processes may stop before they finish. Attackers can abuse this by generating large files, repeated uploads, or log spam to consume quota and cause denial-of-service-like disruption. Defenders respond with usage monitoring, alerts, recycle-bin cleanup, retention policies, and per-user governance. Pooled storage also requires clear ownership, because shared limits do not mean shared privacy: files may remain private even while capacity is communal.
