Physical security sweep

A check for unauthorized hardware, cameras, microphones, or other suspicious devices.

A physical security sweep is a systematic inspection of a room, workspace, or device-rich area to find unauthorized hardware such as hidden cameras, microphones, recorders, wireless transmitters, rogue chargers, or tampered cables. The goal is to detect anything that could observe, record, or relay sensitive activity without permission.

In cybersecurity, physical sweeps matter because many attacks bypass software defenses entirely. A hidden recorder in a conference room can capture secrets that never touch email, cloud storage, or endpoint logs. Defenders use sweeps to protect executive offices, labs, meeting rooms, and other high-value spaces, often combining visual inspection, access control, RF scanning, and device inventory checks. These reviews are especially important when confidential discussions, source code, customer data, or incident response plans are being handled. A good sweep reduces the chance that a room itself becomes part of the attack surface.
