Pentest agent

An automated security-testing tool that tries to find weaknesses in a system.

A pentest agent is an automated security-testing tool that probes a system for weaknesses by trying known attack paths in a controlled way. It may scan services, test inputs, check configurations, and look for logic flaws or exposed secrets. In modern workflows, the agent can be part of a larger AI-assisted or scripted testing stack, but it still acts as a tester, not a real attacker.

Pentest agents matter because they help defenders find vulnerabilities before criminals do. They are useful for recurring checks in web apps, APIs, cloud environments, and even protocol implementations where small validation mistakes can have large consequences. In real attacks, the same style of automation is used offensively to enumerate targets and rapidly test weak spots. In defense, teams use pentest agents to validate fixes, measure exposure, and verify that security controls block unsafe behavior without relying on manual review alone.
