Pattern geometry

the arrangement of lines and cuts that determines how a material changes shape.

Pattern geometry is the arrangement of lines, cuts, or repeated features that determines how a material or structure changes shape. In cyber security, the idea maps well to how small structural choices in code, data, or traffic patterns can produce very different behavior. A minor change in layout can alter how something is parsed, executed, compressed, detected, or visualized.

This matters because attackers often rely on geometry-like structure in a digital sense: the position of bytes, delimiters, fields, or packet fragments can trigger parser bugs, bypass filters, or hide malicious content. Defenders also use pattern geometry when building signatures, anomaly rules, and protocol analyzers, because the arrangement of features often reveals whether traffic is normal or crafted. Understanding the shape of a pattern helps security teams recognize when structure itself is the attack surface.
