Patch status

The published state of whether a bug is fixed, open, or still under investigation.

Patch status is the published state of a software defect or vulnerability: for example, whether it is open, under investigation, or considered fixed. It helps administrators decide whether to install an update, keep investigating, or continue applying workarounds.

In security operations, teams use patch status from vendor advisories and internal tracking systems to prioritize remediation and communicate risk. A status marked “fixed” is not proof that the problem is resolved in every environment; administrators should verify the update and test the affected behavior. Incorrect or premature status can lead teams to close tickets or stop troubleshooting while an issue remains.
