A parcel scam is a social-engineering trick that uses delivery, customs, or package problems to make a false story sound believable. The attacker may claim a parcel is missing, blocked, unpaid, or linked to a crime, then pressure the target to act quickly. Because package delivery is a normal part of daily life, the story can feel routine even when it is fabricated.
This tactic matters in cyber security because it often serves as the front end of fraud, identity theft, or account takeover. It can appear in phone calls, text messages, emails, or chat apps, sometimes paired with fake authority such as a courier company, bank, or police identity. Defenses focus on verification: do not trust contact details provided in the message, check shipment status through official channels, and treat urgent payment or login requests as warning signs. Parcel scams succeed by exploiting trust and speed, not technical exploits.
