P2P remote management is a device-access feature that lets an operator connect to hardware without being on the same local network. Instead of opening a direct inbound port, the device may establish an outbound connection to a vendor service and then use that service as a rendezvous point for remote control. This makes setup easier for cameras, NVRs, routers, and other IoT equipment.
In cyber security, the convenience can become a liability. A vendor-mediated path adds another trust relationship, and if credentials, firmware, or cloud accounts are weak, attackers may use the same channel to reach many devices at once. Defenders should treat P2P access like any other remote-admin service: enable it only when needed, use strong unique credentials, keep firmware updated, review vendor security settings, and segment the device from sensitive networks. Used carefully, it improves reachability; used carelessly, it broadens the attack surface.
