An Open Graph image is the preview picture social platforms display when a link is shared. Websites use it to control how pages look in feeds, chats, and messaging apps. It is often generated dynamically from page data, titles, or user content, which makes it more than a cosmetic asset.
In cyber security, Open Graph images matter because the rendering endpoint can become an attack surface. If untrusted input reaches image templates, SVG markup, or style attributes, an attacker may trigger injection, data leakage, or server-side code execution in poorly designed systems. Defenders should treat preview-image generators like any other public endpoint: validate inputs, avoid direct interpolation into SVG, use safe templating, and patch the rendering framework promptly.
