Off-screen recording is the capture of what a device shows on its display for later viewing, rather than reading it live. The capture can be done with a camera, screen-capture software, or a video grabber, depending on the device and access level.
In cyber security, this matters because many sensitive details are visible only on-screen: one-time passcodes, admin consoles, alerts, or diagnostic data. Attackers may record a screen to steal information, document a target’s workflow, or bypass the lack of a built-in data export path. Defenders use the same idea for incident response, remote support, training, and evidence collection, where a visual record can preserve transient information that would otherwise disappear.
