OCT Inst is an EPC scheme for instant credit transfers where one leg is inside SEPA and the other is outside it. It extends the idea of instant payments across scheme boundaries, so speed depends not only on the payment rail but also on interoperability between banks, infrastructures, and rulebooks.
In cyber security, that boundary is important because cross-border payment flows create more places for fraud, message tampering, routing errors, and workflow abuse. Attackers may try to exploit inconsistent formats, weak authentication, or gaps in reconciliation between systems. Defenders reduce risk with strong message validation, mutual authentication, fraud and sanctions screening, logging, anomaly detection, and tightly enforced scheme rules. OCT Inst shows that secure instant payments are as much about trusted connections as they are about fast settlement.
