A notification authority is the public body designated to receive and manage formal notifications under a regulatory framework. In cyber security regulation, this usually means handling reports about products, compliance obligations, or other required filings so the framework has a clear official entry point.
This role matters because it turns policy into an operating process. Vendors, importers, and other regulated parties need to know where to submit information, seek recognition, or begin a compliance procedure. In practice, a notification authority may coordinate with market-surveillance teams, support guidance for manufacturers, and help ensure that security requirements are applied consistently. For product-security regimes such as the Cyber Resilience Act, the authority is part of how security becomes enforceable: it links technical obligations to a formal administrative channel, which helps regulators track responsibility and organizations prove compliance.
