myGov

Australia’s government account gateway used to link and manage services such as Medicare.

myGov is Australia’s government account gateway. It lets people sign in once and connect services such as Medicare, so it acts as an identity layer between the user and multiple public services. Instead of each service handling a separate login, myGov manages account linking, verification, and session controls.

In cyber security, that makes myGov a high-value target: if an attacker gains access to a myGov account, they may be able to reach linked services without attacking each one directly. Defenders therefore treat it as part of the trust boundary, protecting credentials, enforcing strong identity checks, and monitoring for unusual account linking or session reuse. In real attacks and security testing, the focus is often on credential theft, phishing, token abuse, or misuse of linked access rather than on the service name itself. The key risk is unauthorized access to the accounts it connects.
