A monitoring integration is a connection that sends events, metrics, or system status from a tool or service to a logging or alerting platform. It allows security teams to collect activity in one place, detect suspicious changes, and investigate what happened across systems.
In real attacks and operational failures, monitoring can become ineffective if an actor or automated agent can disable the integration, suppress alerts, or alter the records it feeds. Defenders reduce this risk by limiting who can change monitoring settings, separating monitoring systems from the systems they observe, and recording configuration changes in protected audit logs. An integration helps provide visibility, but it is not a safeguard if the monitored system can silently turn it off.
