Megatexture

a large texture approach designed to manage detailed surface imagery.

A megatexture is a large-texture approach that stores detailed surface imagery in a way that can be streamed, tiled, or selectively loaded instead of forcing every asset to live as one huge full-resolution image. In graphics systems, this helps preserve visual detail while controlling memory use and rendering cost. The same idea matters in security because large asset pipelines can become a source of instability, excessive resource use, or hidden content in embedded software and game bundles.

In real defensive work, megatexture-style data can show up in firmware images, mobile apps, or game engines that ship with very large texture packs. Analysts may check whether oversized assets are being used to bloat downloads, exhaust device memory, or conceal unrelated payloads inside normal-looking media files. Defenders also care because texture management choices affect performance and can create denial-of-service conditions on constrained devices if loading or decompression is not controlled.
