MDM

Mobile device management; software used to enforce security and policy on phones and tablets.

MDM, or mobile device management, is software that lets an organization enforce security rules on phones and tablets. It can require screen locks, encryption, approved apps, VPN settings, device health checks, and remote wipe if a device is lost or compromised.

In cyber security, MDM matters because a mobile device is often the endpoint, not the trust boundary. Sensitive data may still be protected by identity checks, session limits, and network controls, but MDM adds another layer by ensuring only managed devices can reach corporate systems. Attackers may try to bypass MDM by using personal devices, stolen credentials, or unmanaged browsers. Defenders use MDM to reduce that risk, revoke access quickly, and audit which devices were allowed to view or export data.
