Mass is the amount of matter in an object. In physics, it helps determine how much force is needed to move an object and, in gravity-based systems, how much weight must be lifted. Mass is not the same as weight: weight changes with gravity, while mass stays constant.
In cyber security, mass matters in cyber-physical systems such as industrial lifts, robotics, drones, and energy storage equipment. Attackers may try to exploit bad sensor readings, calibration errors, or control logic that assumes the wrong mass, leading to overloads, broken equipment, or unsafe motion. Defenders use accurate mass estimates and safety limits to prevent automation failures and to ensure that software-controlled machines behave as expected.
