Market test

A limited experiment used to learn whether expansion is worth scaling.

A market test is a limited experiment used to see whether a new product, service, or expansion is worth scaling. Instead of investing heavily up front, a team measures real demand, audience fit, and conversion signals with a small, controlled rollout.

In cyber security, the same idea helps reduce risk. Defenders may test a new detection rule, phishing simulation, or security campaign on a small group before wide deployment. Attackers also use market-test-like trials: they may send a lure to a narrow target set, probe a service with a small exploit attempt, or validate stolen data on a sample before scaling operations. The value is feedback. A good test shows whether the approach works, where it fails, and what should change before larger commitments are made.
