MacSync Stealer is a macOS malware family described as an information stealer and a remote-access staging framework. As an infostealer, it is built to collect sensitive data such as saved credentials, browser session information, and other user data. As a staging framework, it can prepare an infected system for follow-on access or additional payloads.
It matters because macOS attacks are not limited to traditional app-based malware. MacSync Stealer can be delivered through social engineering, including malicious pages that persuade users to run attacker-controlled commands in Terminal. That bypasses many file-based defenses, since the malicious action is executed directly by the user. Defenders look for unusual command-line activity, suspicious script execution, and unexpected permission prompts, while user training focuses on refusing copy-and-paste instructions from untrusted support pages or search results.
