Java-based RAT

Malware described as written in Java and used for remote access.

A Java-based RAT is a remote access trojan written in Java and used to control an infected device from afar. Because Java runs on multiple operating systems, this kind of malware can be easier to adapt and distribute across different environments, as long as the target has a compatible Java runtime or bundled Java components.

In cyber attacks, a Java-based RAT may be hidden inside a trojanized download, such as a fake game tool or installer. After execution, it can receive commands, steal credentials, capture data, download more payloads, and help attackers move toward account takeover or broader compromise. Its value to attackers is stealth and flexibility: it turns a single user launch into remote control.

Defenders look for suspicious Java launch behavior, unexpected outbound connections, and unauthorized process activity. Limiting unofficial software, verifying downloads, and using endpoint detection can reduce the risk of Java-based RAT infections.
