An IT systems integrator is a company that designs, deploys, connects, and maintains technology infrastructure for clients. That can include networks, telecoms, security tools, servers, cloud services, and specialized platforms. In practice, integrators often work across many parts of a customer’s environment rather than owning the systems themselves.
This role matters in cyber security because integrators may need privileged access, detailed configuration knowledge, and trusted connectivity into critical environments. Attackers may target them as a path to downstream victims, while defenders should treat their access as sensitive third-party risk. Good controls include least privilege, strong authentication, logging, segmented access, and regular review of contractor permissions and dependencies.
