IoT vulnerabilities

Security weaknesses in internet-connected devices that attackers can abuse for unauthorized access or control.

IoT vulnerabilities are security weaknesses in internet-connected devices such as cameras, routers, sensors, and industrial controllers. They often come from weak passwords, exposed services, insecure firmware, unpatched software, or poor authentication. Because these devices are built to stay online and work with limited management, they are frequently easier to overlook than laptops or servers.

In cyber attacks, IoT vulnerabilities are used to gain unauthorized access, run commands, steal data, or conscript devices into botnets and proxy networks. A single exposed flaw can give attackers a foothold inside a home, business, or operational network. Defenders reduce risk by tracking every connected device, changing default credentials, updating firmware, disabling unnecessary remote access, and monitoring for unusual outbound connections or command execution. Treating IoT gear as low-value is a common mistake; in practice, it can become a persistent entry point or a relay for hidden traffic.
