An interview guide is a structured set of questions and expected answers used to prepare for, or conduct, interviews. In cybersecurity, it often covers topics such as networking, logs, access control, incident response, threat detection, and communication under pressure.
It matters because security hiring depends on more than memorized definitions. A good guide helps interviewers compare candidates fairly and test practical judgment: how someone would triage an alert, confirm evidence, weigh business impact, or explain a defensive choice. Strong guides use scenario-based questions to reveal real reasoning, while weak ones can be gamed by rote answers. For defenders, the guide is a screening tool; for attackers, any hiring process that relies only on rehearsed responses can become a weakness if an unqualified person is allowed privileged access.
