Internal records

company documents that may reveal operations, approvals, or billing patterns if exposed.

Internal records are non-public company documents and data created or used to run an organization. Examples include invoices, debit notes, approval trails, expense reports, contracts, and operational logs. They can reveal how work is carried out, who approved a transaction, or how a business relationship is structured.

In cyber security, exposed internal records can create risks even when they do not contain passwords or other technical secrets. Attackers may use them to support extortion, impersonate staff or suppliers, or make misleading claims about a victim. Defenders should verify leaked material before treating it as proof of a breach or misconduct, preserve relevant evidence, and limit access to sensitive business documents. A document may be genuine yet incomplete or taken out of context.
