Intel TDX

a hardware-backed isolation technology for confidential virtual machines.

Intel TDX (Trust Domain Extensions) is a hardware-backed isolation technology for confidential virtual machines. It uses CPU and platform support to create a protected execution environment so that the guest’s memory and code are harder for the cloud host, hypervisor, or other privileged software to inspect or tamper with. In practice, TDX is designed for workloads that need privacy even when the surrounding infrastructure is not fully trusted.

TDX matters because it shifts security boundaries downward, from software controls to hardware-enforced isolation. Defenders use it to reduce exposure of sensitive data in cloud environments, while attackers may try to break that model by targeting the hardware, firmware, or memory path below the guest. Real-world attacks against confidential computing often focus on physical access, platform misconfiguration, or side channels that can weaken isolation. Strong physical security, verified platform state, and careful deployment are essential to make TDX effective.
