Industrialization

The process of turning a prototype into a scalable product.

Industrialization is the process of turning a prototype into a scalable product. In cyber security, it describes the step from a one-off exploit, script, or proof of concept to a repeatable toolchain that can be sold, reused, or deployed at volume. This usually adds automation, packaging, documentation, infrastructure, and support so the capability works reliably across many targets or operators.

It matters because many attacks become dangerous only after they are industrialized. A rough phishing kit can evolve into a polished malware service, a ransomware platform, or a botnet with dashboards, payment handling, and update mechanisms. On the defensive side, security teams also industrialize by turning manual analysis into repeatable detection, incident response, and hardening workflows. That scale helps defenders keep up with adversaries who benefit from speed, consistency, and low operating cost.
