An ICT provider is a company that delivers information and communications technology services, such as network connectivity, hosted platforms, cloud systems, managed support, email, telephony, and security tooling. Because these services often sit inside business operations, the provider may hold privileged access, remote administration paths, or sensitive customer data.
In cyber security, ICT providers matter because they can become high-value targets for ransomware, account takeover, supply-chain abuse, and extortion. If an attacker compromises a provider, the impact can spread to many customers through shared infrastructure or trusted integrations. Defenders treat ICT providers as part of the attack surface by enforcing strong authentication, segmentation, logging, backup protection, and rapid incident verification when a public claim or abnormal activity appears.
