Hash ID

a unique identifier used to track a specific post or record.

A Hash ID is a unique identifier assigned to a specific post, record, or entry in a system. In cyber security reporting, it often appears as a long hexadecimal string that lets analysts refer to one exact item without confusion, even when titles, victim names, or descriptions change.

Hash IDs matter because they support accurate tracking and correlation. Defenders use them to de-duplicate reports, follow updates to a ransomware claim, and connect related intelligence across logs, leak sites, and threat feeds. Attackers may also use them to reference a particular extortion post or to make a claim look official. A Hash ID does not prove an intrusion or confirm damage; it only identifies the record being discussed. That is why analysts treat it as a pointer for verification, not as evidence of breach on its own.
