Hack blocker

a defensive role focused on preventing, detecting, or interrupting intrusions.

A hack blocker is a defensive role or function focused on stopping intrusions before they spread. The term is informal, but the work is real: monitoring for suspicious activity, interrupting exploit attempts, and closing the paths attackers use to gain access. In practice, a hack blocker may be a security analyst, incident responder, product control, or automated system such as an EDR, IDS, or web application firewall.

This matters because cyber defense is not only about finding breaches after the fact. It is about reducing dwell time, limiting damage, and preserving trust in critical systems. Hack blockers rely on controls like least privilege, logging, segmentation, MFA, and rapid isolation of compromised hosts. In attacks, they may block malicious logins, quarantine malware, or shut down an exposed service. In defense, they turn offensive knowledge into protective action by making attack paths harder to use and easier to spot.
