Greentech

technologies and business models aimed at reducing environmental impact.

Greentech refers to technologies and business models designed to reduce environmental impact, such as renewable energy systems, batteries, smart grids, electric-vehicle charging, industrial efficiency tools, and climate software. In cyber security, greentech matters because these businesses often blend cloud services, operational technology (OT), industrial control systems, and complex supply chains. That mix creates a broad attack surface, especially when a project moves from prototype to a real plant or grid deployment.

Attackers may target greentech companies with ransomware, stolen credentials, phishing, or supply-chain compromise to disrupt operations or gain leverage over investors and customers. In physical systems, tampering with sensors, remote access, or telemetry can affect output, safety, and billing. Defenses usually include strong identity controls, network segmentation, secure remote access, asset inventory, patch management, and vendor risk checks. For greentech operators, cyber resilience is part of reliability: if the plant or platform cannot be trusted, the environmental benefits cannot scale.
