A Google Cloud organization is the top-level root of the Google Cloud resource hierarchy. Everything below it, such as folders, projects, and most resources, inherits structure and governance from this level. The organization is where administrators define broad policy, billing boundaries, IAM patterns, and security controls that can affect many workloads at once.
This matters in cyber security because organization-scoped permissions have a very large blast radius. If an attacker, compromised service account, or over-privileged automation gains control at the organization level, they may be able to change policies, create or move resources, or weaken protections across many projects. Defenders should keep organization-level access tightly limited, use least privilege, separate duties for admin and automation identities, and monitor high-impact changes carefully. In cloud attacks, the organization is often the most valuable target because it sits above the rest of the environment.
