Google Apps Script is a scripting platform built into Google Workspace that lets users automate tasks and make web requests from Google-hosted code. In normal use, it helps connect apps, process data, and run lightweight business workflows. Because the code runs in a trusted cloud environment, its network activity can blend in with legitimate automation.
That same trust makes it attractive to attackers. A malicious operator may abuse Apps Script as a relay, redirector, or dead-drop layer to pass commands, stage data, or hide the real infrastructure behind a reputable Google service. This can weaken simple domain-blocking and make traffic look like ordinary cloud activity rather than malware beaconing. Defenders should inspect unusual script behavior, unexpected outbound requests, and automation tied to non-business processes, then correlate it with DNS and HTTPS telemetry to spot abuse.
