Generative systems are AI tools that produce new text, images, audio, code, or other media by learning patterns from large training data. They do not simply retrieve stored answers; they generate output that can look original, fluent, and context-aware. In cyber security, that makes them powerful and risky: the same technology can draft emails, rewrite claims, imitate a tone, or create realistic fake assets.
Attackers use generative systems to scale phishing, write convincing social-engineering lures, generate fake reviews, or produce synthetic voices and images for impersonation. Defenders use them for log summarization, alert triage, incident-response drafting, and content analysis, but must verify outputs because they can hallucinate or amplify falsehoods. When monitoring online reputation or abuse, generative systems matter because they can repeat and repackage negative material, making harmful narratives easier to surface and harder to correct.
