Frame rate

The number of visual frames shown each second, often measured as FPS.

Frame rate is the number of visual frames displayed each second, usually measured as FPS. In interactive software, it affects how smooth motion appears and how accurately timing-sensitive behavior is reproduced. A 60 FPS system updates about once every 16.7 milliseconds, which can make animation, scrolling, and input feedback feel consistent.

In cyber security, frame rate matters because many attacks and defenses depend on timing and visual behavior. Malware and emulators may be detected when they cannot maintain expected FPS, while defenders use stable rendering to make sandboxes and virtual machines look more like real devices. Low or inconsistent frame rates can also distort remote-desktop monitoring, screen-capture evidence, or UI-driven automation, making analysis harder. In short, frame rate is not just a graphics metric: it can reveal whether a system is faithful, overloaded, or being deliberately probed.
